In this article, you will find guidance around creating tutorials for Gravity Sketch. To learn more about recording video in VR, please visit the In-app filming guidance article.
Purpose of tutorials
There are two main types of tutorial:
- Workflow Tutorial illustrating a section or entire workflow (a series of features)
- Feature Tutorial illustrating how to use one individual feature
Tutorials should both inform users of the existence of a workflow or feature as well as educate them on how to do it.
Assets
Continuity:
- For individual tutorials or a series of related tutorials (e.g. a product release) agree one asset to use throughout the series
- Decide on the colorway of this asset across the series
- Ensure assets used are publicly available in the community asset library
Script
Evergreen use:
- In the voiceover, do not reference the point in time or release the feature is related to.
Avoid saying anything timely e.g…
- ‘this July’
- ‘version 6.3’
- ‘2024’
- ‘New feature’
- ‘Just released’
This context can be set in the copy surrounding the video, or an additional promo. The tutorial should be approached as if it is a standard feature that can be used indefinitely.
Terminology:
- Adhere to the feature and controller terms in the glossary
Script structure:
- Introduce yourself
- Tell the viewer which feature you are going to show them
- Explain why it is important in the wider context of a workflow (see positioning alignment below)
- Take them step by step through the buttons and actions to use the feature(s)
- Briefly pause between features to enable a good view of how the asset / room has been modified
- Mention where users can find the asset you have used
- Reiterate what was shown and the value
Duration
Workflow tutorial segments: 4 minutes - 10 minutes
Individual feature tutorial: 90 seconds - 4 minutes
