New to Gravity Sketch or need a refresher? You can now jump into the self-guided onboarding rooms! A Gravity Sketch trainer will take you on a journey through five virtual rooms and fourteen stages, covering everything from navigation to basic subdivision surfacing.
What to expect in each room
Using tutorial videos and hands-on activities, you’ll master the basics of Gravity Sketch, empowering you to integrate 3D into your workflows. A solid foundation of creation tools will mean you can get started quicker with intuitively expressing ideas in 3D, and the communication of these design ideas at scale. The rooms can be completed at your own pace, whether you prefer diving in all in one day or spreading them out over time.
Accessing the Gravity Sketch onboarding rooms
Accessing the experience is simple, and can be done directly from the Gravity Sketch lobby in VR.
1. Log into your Gravity Sketch LandingPad account in VR
2. Select the Learn icon from the main Gravity Sketch lobby
3. Go to the “New Features” section
4. Select the option labeled “Onboarding Room 1” to begin
Room 1: Navigation/Manipulating Objects
At conclusion of Room 1 users will be able to move and scale themselves around a room, as well as move, scale and change the color of objects. These skills can then be applied in manipulating existing shapes and models, to communicate alignment with aesthetics.
Room 2: Basic Creation Tools and Edit Mode
- Drawing in Gravity Sketch
- Editing Strokes
- Creating your own Chair
Room 2 focuses on the basic sketching tools like Stroke, Ink, and Volume, as well as how to manipulate these lines using Edit Mode. These sketching and editing skills will enable you to better communicate your own basic design ideas in 3D.
Room 3: Wireframing
- Controlling your workspace environment
- Importing reference images and drawing in Planar Mode
- Using Smart Move to create a wireframe
Users will learn how to change their workspace environment, sketch over the top of a reference image, and build more advanced 3D wireframes by using a combination of Planar Mode, Edit Mode and Smart Move. Constructing these wireframes will enable you to convey more precise proportions and constraints of ideas ready for surfacing.
Room 4: Basic Surfacing
- Laying down a surface stroke
- Learning Subdivision surfacing
- Surfacing your own midsole
Room 4 dives into the world of surfacing, teaching users how to create basic surfaces to build out their visions, using the ribbon and other surfacing tools. Users will also learn the basics of subdivision surfacing and how to edit a surface focusing on extrusion.
Room 5: Design Challenge
- Viewing the web browser
- Beginning your own project
On completion of room 5 you’ll be ready to start your first project with the skills you’ve learned throughout the different stages. You can start creating and collaborating in a virtual studio, and explore Gravity Sketch within your own workflow.
