Environments
Environment Preset Library
A library of preset environments is now available to all users, so you can quickly find and change the perfect environment for your idea. All environments can be edited and saved so your exact preferences are available across sessions. To edit an environment simply grab the dome to the right of the panel and press your blue edit mode button. Alternatively, build a new saved environment from scratch, including importing your own HDR images. Presets include:
- Grey Room
- Gumdrop
- Warehouse
- Day & Night
- Studio 1
- Studio 2
- Skyline
- Horizon
- Zebra
Access and Use
In the environments tab you have the ability to rotate backgrounds, control blur for background and reflections independently, or set solid color or gradient backdrops. To access these additional settings, grab the dome to the side of the panel and press the blue edit mode button.
Certain preset environments may have additional properties that can be adjusted, for example the Day & Night procedural skybox adjusts the sun’s position through the time of day and north offset sliders.
Scene vs. Point of View Lighting
Whether you’re viewing 3D data in VR or on screen in Gravity Sketch, you can now toggle between scene and point of view lighting.
The toggle is available from the quick access menu, as well as the Environments tab.
Using this toggle will only change the lighting for the user adjusting it, giving individuals control over their current view. The directional light tied to your viewpoint enables a more detailed exploration of ideas and data from any angle.
From environment edit mode, you can grab the light source and alter the temperature, and angle. This gives you flexibility to view an idea in multiple ways and replicate the different lighting factors of environments in the real-world.
Lighting Temperature
Using the Torch to the right of the panel you have the ability to change both the intensity of the light as well as the light color (warm vs cool). To change the intensity, grab the torch and press your dominant hand thumb stick to the right to make it warmer and to the left to make it cooler. To change the intensity of the light, press up on the thumbstick to make the light more intense or press it down to decrease the intensity.
HDR Custom Environments
You can load an HDR image to Gravity Sketch Landing Pad on Web and use it as your custom in your sketches and Collab Room environment. This option is available within the HDR option when editing an environment.
- First, make sure your file is in HDR format
- Upload the image to LandingPad (landingpad.me) or drop it into the HDRs folder on your computer (check How do I Import and Export files?)
- Switch the HDR setting
- Click the dropdown menu and choose the file you would like to set as your environment
